Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask Review

To start my wordpress blog on whiskies, I decided to go with a whisky which has captivated me this year 2016 and that bottle is the Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask.

Tasting Notes:
Colour: Deep Rich Mahogany
Nose:  Mouth watering from the nose, powerful and very rich, 90% dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, sticky dates, figs, prunes, fudge. further nosing brings out the spices: a sweet spice of cinnamon, hints of nutmeg, dried fruits soaked in thick sherry, dark forest cherries and slight vanilla.
Palate: Instantly feel the presents of the abv, heat from spices ginger and cinnamon. Get the richness of the fruits soaked in their own juices and feels like biting into them like a Christmas cake, the texture thickens further the longer you leave it on the palate. Rich oaky character.
Finish: Very long rich succulent juicy sweet oakiness, all the dried fruits are still evident with spice, it still maintains the woody notes.

How to Read the bottle code:
Each code on every bottle differs, the one on my bottle is as follows: S100122010A
Now to break to code down is rather simple into the type of cask used, then the years, months, day & barrel number on the day.

S  |   10  |  01  |  22  |  010  |  A
Sherry Cask  |  Year  |  Month  |  Day  |  Barrel on the Day  |  A

AGE: 6 year & 14 days
ABV: 57.8%
CASKS: Sherry Cask
DISTILLERY: Kavalan Distillery
COMPANY: King Car Group
REGION/ORIGIN: Yilan County, Taiwan
PRICE: £124.00
EXCLUSIVE: No (Does Offer Different Batches)

Comments: In my opinion I find this a pure definition of a sherry bomb, It offers massive complexity and definitely something to savour and enjoy. My personal recommendation would be to try it neat.
