Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 12 Year Old Review

The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is a 12yr old whisky and part of Glenmorangie’s core range which is matured for 10yrs in American White Oak casks and then finally being finished in Ruby Port Pipes for a remaining 2yrs to total the full maturation to 12yrs. The bottle which I have in this review I picked up in a set which is called the Pioneering set which I bought from Royal Mile Whiskies in London. This set contained the Original, Lasanta & Quinta Ruban all in 35cl bottles.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: Copper
Nose: On the nose I pick very heavy raisin which is like opening a box of raisins and getting that sweet aroma, rich sweet fruitiness, Port Wine. A combination of juicy Orange and Lime segments with a dry woody character.
Palate: On the palate a raspberry sweetness greets the taste buds with a slight tangy note followed by a blood orange which is rich and juicy but still offering its sweet chewy texture, nutmeg and Manuka honey and barley on the end.
Finish: The finish is long rich fruity raisin, rolled oats with a slightly bitter citrus peel but still so juicy to the end.

AGE: 12 years
ABV: 46%
CASKS: American White Oak Casks (10yr) + Ruby Port Pipes (2yr)
DISTILLERY: Glenmorangie Distillery
REGION/ORIGIN: Highlands, Scotland
PRICE: £48
EXCLUSIVE: Not Exclusive

Comments: My overall opinion on the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is that it’s a wonderfully crafted port finish whisky, its one I wouldn’t personally recommend with water as its will reduce the texture considerably. However for the youth in the age and the quality of the whisky I would recommend you to try this if you haven’t already and when you include the price around £50 into the equation it’s worth the try. If you’ve tried the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban let me know what you think of it below.
